Announcing: Project Yet House
Project Yet has made a huge leap forward. And it’s because of the support of people like you.
HERE’S THE BIG NEWS
On May 1st, we signed a lease on our first Project Yet House. Yay! This will allow us to support the young adults we serve in more substantial ways than ever before. Here are a few of the ways we envision this hub of operations being used:
-
A safe space for young people to gather
-
Temporary beds for emergency accommodation
-
Short-term rental housing for a few young adults, allowing them to save money and build credit
-
Office space for Project Yet meetings and day-to-day and administrative needs
-
An area to host hands-on workshops and classes for practical skills like cooking, baking, basic home maintenance, lawn care, cleaning, home organization, finances, and more
What kind of impact has Project Yet made on young adults 18 – 24 years old?
We asked Cooper Duncan who has been involved in Project Yet since he was 18 years old. Now at 21, Cooper serves as a young adult member of our Board of Directors and will be the day-to-day manager of the new PY House.
In addition to building a community of friends and developing relationships with supportive adults, Cooper says, “One of the key things I learned through Project Yet was how important it is to get to know people and recognize that everyone has something to give. Having conversations and spending time with another person, you learn what is important to them and that gives you a basis for understanding and supporting one other. My personal experience with this organization pushed me believe I had something valuable to offer and gave me the confidence to strive for the life and career I want.”
Cooper will be managing the PY House while pursuing a college degree in psychology. When asked what impact the house will have for young adults involved with our nonprofit, Cooper said, “First the PY House will provide a stable base for young adults to get started as they move into adulthood. When you don’t know where you will live, it’s impossible to plan, learn, or find the best job. With safe housing, residents can get their feet under them as they save money and build credit, while focusing on opportunities to grow into their best selves.”
Cooper continues, “The PY House won’t be a no-contact roommate situation. We’ll connect with one another and serve as hosts for classes and workshops that expand our community of young adults. Together we’ll be a daily extension of the Project Yet mission to offer resources, skills, and support to foster personal growth and confidence.”
WHAT WE NEED – Donations for rent, utilities, furnishings
To make Project Yet’s leap into housing a success, we need your help. Our goal is to have the first year’s rent fully sponsored within the next 60 days.
Thank you to Monica McIntire for helping us find this home to rent and for sponsoring the PY House for the month of May. We currently have the rent fully sponsored through August.
HERE IS HOW YOU CAN HELP
We are asking businesses and individuals to donate all or part of one month’s rent. A full month is $2000; half month is $1000; and one week is $500.
In addition, we need funds to purchase things like mattresses, bed frames, and living room furniture. Kitchen supplies such as plates, utensils, pots and pans, table, chairs or benches, and kitchen towels. In other areas we need throw rugs, window coverings, bath towels, a television, Alexa, a camera doorbell, cleaning supplies, cooking spices and pantry basics, and shelving units. Since the house came with a basketball goal and a raised garden bed, we need a basketball, soil, a garden hose, outdoor plants, flowers, and seeds for starting a vegetable and herb garden. The donation of a lawn edger will help us keep the yard looking neat. We’re open to these actual items these being donated. Let us know what you have that we might need by sending an email to info@projectyet.org.
THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNITY for ongoing support
Many thanks to our building committee for their expertise as they research and review possibilities for the land that was granted to us in the fall. And for suggesting that we rent a house in the interim so a place could be available immediately.
Thank you as well to our board members and our supportive network of Project Yet sponsors, donors, and friends.
We will host an appreciation event later this year. Sponsor rent for the PY House or donate at least $50 to score an invitation to our still-being-planned event!
HELP US MEET OUR GOAL
Make a donation of $50 or more and you’ll get an invitation to our appreciation event later this year!
All financial donations made through this page will be used specifically for the PY House. Project Yet is a 501c3 not for profit and your donations are tax deductible. We welcome all gender identities and are an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.
If you have items to donate, send an email to info@projectyet.org. You can also contact house manager Cooper Duncan at 678-938-1271.
